Shane and I just got back from a trip to Big Sur, California for a dear friend's wedding. It was small, beautiful and elegant... PERFECT to be exact. All of it was prefect... the wedding, the weekend, the weather, the vacation! If you haven't been to central California, it needs to be at the top of your list.
We flew into Monterey, drove to Carmel and stayed the night. What a quaint, eclectic shopping and artist village nestled between the mountains and the sea. Good food, good wine, good views!
On Saturday, we drove 17 Mile Drive through Pebble Beach and then straight down PCH (Hwy 1) on the California coast to Big Sur. We stayed at Ventana Inn with the magesty of the Pacific Ocean and the Red Wood forest surrounding. Wow... it is a MUST SEE!
We had a little time on Monday after the wedding festivities and before our return to be tourists. We headed south to visit the Hearst Castle. After our grand tour we made our way through the visitor's center to a theater to watch a documentary about William Randolph Hearst when, much to our surprise.... we saw a Cross My Heart invitation hanging in the lobby! I'd like to refer to it as "Vintage" Cross My Heart... right there is the Hearst Castle! Apparently sometime back in 2002, a Ranch BBQ was held as a fund-raiser by the "Friends of Hearst Castle" and none other than a CMH western invite now adorns the walls with photos showcasing the event. Yee-haw... we made the wall!
